hi guys, recently the tension rod inside the swing arm gripper of our gto 46 broke off. does this really happen often to gto 46?

anyway, we were able to replace it already. but we didnt know how to adjust the proper tension or timing of this.

hope someone can help. thanks!

Alex, It's safe to say that your 46 is over 25 years old, and I'll guess the torsion rod that you just replaced was the original one. They don't break often, but I'll wager you'll not have to replace it again in your lifetime. Steve

As to the proper adjustment, look on e-bay, there is someone selling GTO maintenance books for a reasonable price. The procedure to do this is not difficult, but a bit involved to explain on a forum.

hi junker, thanks for the reply.. our unit is 2nd hand already so im not sure if the tension rod was an original heidelberg. we just let the machine shop fabricate a new one.

in installing the tension rod. fortunately our operator was able to put a guide by scratching the metal. now its up and running..

but, a follow up question. will it harm any other parts if the tension rod snaps off during run time?

Alex, There should be no concerns about damage, only problem you may see if the spring is not properly set is that there may be register variances from sheet to sheet. Glad we could be of assistance. Steve
