Default Heidi movp and alcolor!

Hello my name is josh and I am new to this site! I am curious on a few things with my 1985 movp. I was told by replaceing the tacho generator and clutch spring it would allow the alcolor dampening to automatically adjust to the iph, instead of having to do all of my adjusting on the fly manually! any feedback? was his guy just blowin smoke? Any help would be appreciated!

Josh - The alcolor system depends on the output of the tachogenerator to compensate for speed variances. Yes, you should replace it if it is not functioning. Steve

Thank you steve so once the tachogenerator is replaced how can i tell if the system is running correctly? I have replaced this item and still find myself manually adjusting dampening manually! When i start up i adjust all my metering rollers tight enough till there is no standing water on the roller itself then all of the dials on the delivery end to the number four! i still am getting toning on full color print im just confused i guess! thanks for responding!

Hi Josh - Without seeing what 's going on there, my first suggestion to you would be to make sure your problem is not caused by chemistry or water temperature. Are your chemicals and ink compatible? Are your refrigeration units keeping the fountain solution on an acceptable temp? On another note, Alcolor dampening on MO and GTO presses can really act up of the first inking form is not stable in the three point holding of the journal box. This is common and is normally caused by excess oscillation of the form which wears out the pins that the roller rest on. Take out your Z-roller (intermediate roller) and pry on the journals of the inking form. If it is not being held in place (allowed to bounce) with in the pins, your ink water balance will be affected greatly. Good Luck Steve

Default Tacho Generator

Hello Josh, Just a shot in the dark, did you happen to cross the wires when you installed the generator. I have seen were people have installed these wrong and never bothered to switch the wiring around to see if that helps....

Hello Josh,
Just a suggestion here, Try setting the intermediate(z) roller light on stripe to the water form. If it calls for 3mm set at 2 mm or 1.5 if it calls for 2mm. Also with the forms to plate(book value minus -1mm) and plus+ 1 mm to osscilator. This may allow you a little more water flexibility on start up to help out. I ran an MO for a few years and always fought the same problem you are having.
